West Park Road Bridge Replacement

Client: City of Union

Cochran performed the surveying, geotechnical investigation and analysis, design, bidding documents, construction administration, inspection, and materials testing for this federal aid bridge replacement along West Park Road in the City of Union.  The project included: removal of the existing bridge, pavement milling, 737 tons of base asphalt, 2,919 sf of concrete sidewalk, ADA detectable warning devices, 999 lf of concrete curb and gutter, mobilization, 8” diameter sewer main relocation, 443 cy of excavation, 360’ of 10” structural steel piles, pre-bore for piling, pile point reinforcement, 44,495 lbs of grade 60 epoxy coated reinforcing steel’, restoration, 294 tons of BP-1 asphalt overlay, and pavement striping.  This project was federally funded and all construction documents were required to meet standards for project delivery as outlined in MoDOT’s Local Public Agency (LPA) manual.

Cochran’s custom design consisted of a 30 foot clear span reinforced concrete slab to eliminate the walls in the middle of the stream that would be associated with a box culvert of this size.  The clear span design reduces the maintenance of debris removal after storm events and provides a hydraulically more efficient bridge.
