Cliff Drive Box Culvert

The Cliff Drive Box Culvert project improved the safety, reliability, and resiliency of a critical neighborhood roadway by replacing aging drainage infrastructure that had reached the end of its service life. Serving approximately 1,400 vehicles each day, Cliff Drive is an important local connection within the City of Branson, making the timely replacement of the deteriorated culvert essential to maintaining safe travel and effective stormwater management.

Cochran provided comprehensive surveying and civil engineering services to design a new cast-in-place reinforced concrete box culvert that delivers long-term structural performance and increased hydraulic capacity. The project included demolition of the existing corrugated metal culvert and construction of a new reinforced concrete structure complete with headwalls, wingwalls, and erosion protection features that improve stream stability and reduce scour during storm events.

The project also enhanced the surrounding transportation infrastructure with roadway reconstruction, asphalt resurfacing, new curb and gutter, sidewalk improvements, and ADA-compliant curb ramps, creating a safer and more accessible corridor for both motorists and pedestrians. Throughout the design process, Cochran coordinated extensively with electric, gas, water, sanitary sewer, and telecommunications providers to minimize utility conflicts and maintain uninterrupted service to the surrounding community.

Located within a FEMA-designated floodplain, the project required careful hydraulic design and compliance with FEMA, SEMA, and City of Branson requirements. Cochran also prepared all topographic surveys, right-of-way and easement documentation, traffic control plans, and erosion control measures necessary for successful project delivery. To help the City capitalize on American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funding, Cochran accelerated the design and bidding schedule, allowing construction to proceed within the required federal funding deadlines.
