Manchester Road ADA Improvements
To improve pedestrian accessibility and safety along Old Manchester Road, the City of Wildwood upgraded six distinct locations ahead of scheduled asphalt resurfacing. The project addressed existing accessibility deficiencies at pedestrian crossings, replacing deteriorated sidewalks and infrastructure and providing ADA-compliant curb ramps that improved connectivity for pedestrians of all abilities. Coordinating the accessibility improvements with the planned roadway resurfacing allowed the City to address both pedestrian and roadway needs as part of a coordinated improvement program. Cochran provided surveying, engineering design, and bidding document preparation for the project.

The project included removal and replacement of deteriorated infrastructure, full-depth pavement replacement at designated locations, concrete sidewalk removal and replacement, and installation of ADA-compliant curb ramps. These improvements addressed existing accessibility constraints while preparing the affected areas for the planned roadway resurfacing.
To improve pedestrian crossing safety, Cochran incorporated new solar-powered pedestrian push-button signals at crosswalks. The solar-powered equipment provided pedestrian-actuated crossing features without requiring additional electrical infrastructure. Additional work included asphalt paving, pavement striping, and site restoration to complete the improvements and integrate the upgraded pedestrian facilities with the surrounding roadway.
By coordinating the ADA improvements with the scheduled resurfacing, the project addressed pedestrian accessibility needs alongside planned pavement work. Cochran completed the design in Spring 2017, and construction was completed in Summer 2017.
