Denton Road Bridge

Denton Road has long served as an important connection through Pacific, Missouri, providing access to downtown, nearby parks and athletic facilities, and surrounding commercial and industrial areas. The existing bridge over Brush Creek had reached a point where replacement was needed, and the roadway approaching the bridge created an additional challenge. Two sharp curves near the bridge limited the alignment and created operational and safety concerns for vehicles using the corridor.

Cochran worked with the City of Pacific to secure STP funding and develop a project that addressed both issues together. The federally funded project replaced the existing bridge and realigned approximately 1,500 feet of Denton Road, improving t6he approach to the crossing while creating a more direct and functional connection through the area. MoDOT identified the project as a bridge replacement and roadway realignment project under Federal Aid No. STP-5419(612).

The new bridge is a single-span structure over Brush Creek utilizing prestressed concrete NU girders. The roadway was widened to improve traffic flow and accommodate 12-foot travel lanes, shoulders and a protected pedestrian walkway. The improved alignment also restored commercial truck access and provided better circulation between downtown Pacific and nearby industrial areas.

Cochran provided the project from the initial funding assistance through construction, including right-of-way acquisition, surveying, geotechnical and hydraulic analysis, structural bridge design, roadway design, bidding documents, construction administration, inspection and materials testing. The project also included replacement of the existing water main, roadway embankment, concrete pavement, rock blanket, open concrete barrier, structural piles, utility improvements, pavement striping and site restoration.

Because the project was federally funded, Cochran prepared the plans and construction documents in accordance with MoDOT’s Local Public Agency requirements. The completed project replaced an aging crossing while correcting the difficult roadway alignment, improving access for vehicles and pedestrians, and strengthening an important connection within the City of Pacific.
