United Bank of Union

Cochran helped transform a historic downtown Union bank into a modern, accessible, and expanded financial services facility while preserving its longstanding presence in the community. The project involved the renovation of the original 1940s-era building and the addition of a 14,124-square-foot, two-story expansion designed to support the bank’s continued growth and enhance the customer experience.

A key project priority was maintaining uninterrupted operations throughout construction. Through careful phasing, including the creation of a temporary drive-thru facility, the bank remained open and fully functional while renovations and expansion work were completed. The redesigned site improved traffic flow through the drive-thru, added convenient ADA-compliant parking, enhanced accessibility throughout the facility, and significantly expanded office and customer service space.

Cochran coordinated a multidisciplinary team of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, structural, telecommunications, and security professionals to modernize building systems while preserving critical banking operations. The project also included utility upgrades, installation of a private fiber network, ADA improvements to entrances and restrooms, and strategic utility coordination to minimize disruptions to the bank, neighboring businesses, and nearby residents.

Despite challenges associated with hidden asbestos, weather delays, and supply chain disruptions, Cochran successfully delivered the project on budget while maintaining the high level of planning, communication, and coordination required for a complex renovation within a busy historic downtown environment.
