Deep Well No. 12

Cochran partnered with the City of Sullivan to expand and strengthen its water supply infrastructure through the design of Well and Well House No. 12. Developed to support the City’s growing water demands and provide a dedicated supply for Menards’ concrete landscaping products manufacturing operations, the project delivers reliable water service while preparing for future treatment needs.

The project included the design of a new 150-gallon-per-minute well equipped with a 30-horsepower pitless submersible pump and a modern well house facility featuring flow measurement and gas chlorination systems for water disinfection. Recognizing the area’s history of groundwater concerns related to trichloroethylene (TCE), Cochran incorporated a forward-thinking design approach by including a dedicated treatment room sized to accommodate future air-stripping equipment if treatment becomes necessary.

By planning for both current operational requirements and potential future water quality challenges, the project provides the City with added flexibility and long-term system resilience. The new facility ensures a dependable water supply for industrial operations while supporting the City’s broader commitment to maintaining safe, high-quality drinking water infrastructure.

Completed in 2017, Well and Well House No. 12 demonstrates Cochran’s expertise in water system planning, treatment facility design, and infrastructure solutions that balance immediate needs with future growth and regulatory considerations.
